The Pix from the Woodstock Museum ...

My Story:  I was working at the Majestic Hotel in So Fallsburgh in 69.  I'd visit my Mom at the Capitol Inn weekly ... she did my laundry and fed me the only good meal I'd eat all week.  My old friend Stuie Levine was working with me, and we heard about a big concert, and (like morons) we actually bought tickets for all 3 days.

During that summer, we went to lots of concerts in the area, most notably, all 4 shows of Ten Years After at the Breezy Corners casino!  Yes, that's true!  We all watched the guys walk on the moon from the tiny TV in the Majestic Hotel lobby.

As the summer wore on, the buzz about the festival was everywhere.  Nearly ALL my co-workers at the hotel quit their jobs, and began the trek to Bethel.   My old buddy Leon Jublinsky and I strapped 2 matrresses to the hood of my car (who ever heard of sleepting bags back then?  Not good little jewish boys!)

Had to ditch the car on 17B, even though we left for the festival in the middle of the night before the first day.  What should have taken 1 hour tops took 4 hours before the ditching.

The rest, as they say, is history.  Twas an event I'll never forget ... I'd love to forget the rain and the mud though.  And of course, after Hendrix was done, I headed over to Balcha at the Capitol Inn to do my laundry and to get a good meal and a real bathroom!

As before, let me apologize for those pix that I simply can't rotate on the blog ... it's their fault!

Hi Capital Inn-Mates!  Hope everything is great!

At Dr Neal (Flomenbaum) suggested, I'm trying to post some Catskill area photos that my wife Shelly and I took this week as we were just cruising around the area:  we went to the Woodstock site in Bethel (which I wholeheartedly recommend), Narrowsburg, Liberty, Loch Sheldrake, South Fallsburg, Woodbourne, and Fallsburgh.  While some of these pix will have little meaning to you, you can see the general condition of the area.

Bottom Line: if man built it, time has not been kind to it.  If God built it (eg. lakes, falls, etc), it's still beautiful. Why was this area basically abandoned is my big question.

Hope you get a kick out of these.  Stay well!        boynot domanski

PS- If you make it to the Woodstock Museum one day, be sure to look me and my message up on their computer!

The Perils of Francine is HERE!

Neal Flomenbaum tenacious will to get THE MOVIE acceptable for it's world premier and home on this blog was simply incredible.  Neal and his son worked tireless for quite some time to convert the super-8 film into a higher quality digital DVD.  I merely converted that DVD into an acceptable web format for viewing here!

Very very very cool.  Brings back LOTS of memories ... for example:

  • I only remember the 'army' of kids running down the hill on the path;
  • I don't remember running down the driveway for cars on the side of the pool;
  • I don't remember being equipped with a weapon, nor do I remember who I might have killed;
  • I remember being in the movie;
  • I don't remember being the rich uncle who saves the day;
  • I remember the Flomenbaum brothers working together on the script and on direction.
What a great summer it was ... if you look a little further down in the blog, there's the great picture of a zillion kids literally hanging off the swings ... a zillion!  Hey, where's a picture of the ping pong table???

Feel free to watch it over and over until you see yourself ... You should be able to pause it as you watch it!

Whoohoo!      :) boynot

Perils of Francine FOUND!

Sun Dec 20 2009 - New York City - At 3:00 PM EST today, the only known copy of The Perils of Francine was found at the bottom of a closet in a residential building on Manhattan's Upper East Side. The discovery ended an unexplained 44 year disappearance and an intense 18 month search by one of the Flomenbaum brothers, long
rumored to be the inspiration for the successful Coen brothers film makers. The 4 minute classic film was found in its original cardboard box together with eight other 4 minute epics in a very old Ziploc bag. Although one of the other 8mm reels apparently also contains rare footage of the Capitol Inn in 1963, the older Flomenbaum advises caution: "The film appears to be rather dark and extremely fragile, with at least one break at the beginning that will have to be repaired before it can be transferred to modern digital media and viewed." It will probably take at least two weeks before it can be determined whether the images have survived in any form other than the participants' collective memories.

When reached by phone a few hours ago and asked to comment about why it took so long to locate the missing film, Neal, noted for his occasional sharp insights, replied "it always seems to be in the last place you look, doesn't it?" Afterwards, a teenage voice could be heard in the background saying, "that's because after you find it, you stop looking, daddy," while an older voice could be heard saying "Didn't I ask you to clean out that closet months ago?"

A longstanding controversy regarding which of the brothers deserves most of the credit for the masterpiece may finally be resolved, with the film box (see attachment) seeming to indicate that the credit belongs to the younger brother. However, Neal points out that the information was clearly recorded in Mark's handwriting and he further adds that he is not sure his younger brother really knew the proper use of a semicolon in those days. More to follow...
